CAF Mum On Super League
Confederation of African Football, CAF has decided to keep its silence on the proposed formation of a Super League in Africa.
The president of the continental football governing body, Dr Patrice Motsepe and his FIFA counterpart Mr Infantino spoke about a 20 team Africa Super League while the former was running for office.
“Unfortunately CAF is not commenting on this issue,” Lux September of CAF’s Media and Communications department told Diskiafrika when asked for comment on whether the Super League was still on the cards for the Motsepe run administration.
Infantino had proposed a 20 team League composed of the elite clubs in Africa. The idea seemed to get a thumbs up from at least one of the clubs’ executives, with Simba SC CEO Barbara Gonzalez tweeting her approval.
Whether CAF’s silence on Infantino’s proposal means it is no longer going to happen remains to be seen. FIFA was critical of a similar Super League that was formed and collapsed without kicking a ball in Europe.
