Ma-Indies Hit For Five As National League Roars Into Life
Gabriela Salgado netted her first and second goals in the league as JWV FC put five past Ma-Indies when the SAFA National Women’s League roared into life on Saturday afternoon.
Women’s football trended on Twitter as all matches in the 2021 season of the National Women’s League kicked off at 15:00 across South Africa.
Salgado’ brace combined with Mpumi Nyandeni’s brace added to a Ludwig goal meant JWV FC collected their first points away from home firing five past Ma-Indies Ladies who replied with just the solitary strike for a 1-5 final scoreline.
Defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies picked up where they left off last season with a clinical 4-0 win over Golden Ladies at their new home ground in Pretoria. Lehlohonolo Mashigo and Morifi Chuene added on to a brace by Bongiwe Thusi to give the Yellow Nation a winning start.
The clash of the universities saw TUT and UWC fashion an entertaining 2-2 draw in a game that was televised on national TV.
“The team performance delighted us more than the point,” said UWC captain Bongeka Gamede after the draw.
Two goals in the last ten minutes from both sides saw University of Johannesburg getting only a point against Bloemfontein Celtic in a game the Orange Army will feel they should have won.
New faces, new sponsors, new kits (with names at the back!) have us all looking forward to a pulsating season of women’s football in South Africa.
